In March I wrote a super successful post about How to Explain The Spirit Of St. Patrick’s Day To Your Toddler. Then in April I followed it up with How To Explain The Meaning Of Easter To Your Toddler. In May came How To Explain The Importance Of Mother’s Day To Your Toddler. I received overwhelmingly positive feedback for all of these posts. I also learned so much from doing them, and found that I really enjoyed researching and writing them. A recurring comment that I received was that I should create a similar post for each upcoming holiday. I think that is a fantastic idea! I will have to explain each holiday to Morgan anyway, and what a better way than to actually learn the facts behind them. Today I will be sharing with you How To Explain The Importance Of Memorial Day To Your Toddler.
To be honest all I knew about Memorial Day was that it is a Holiday honoring those that served in the armed forces and have since passed. It also commemorates my and Austin’s wedding anniversary. This year Austin and I will be celebrating 10 years! We had an extremely patriotic wedding. It was at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace. We requested every single American Flag that they had on premises. We dined in a replica of the White House East Room. And our guests even got to board and tour Marine One. In my eyes our wedding was absolutely perfect!
But I digress, this post is about Memorial Day and as always I want to know more. Especially because when Morgan does come to an age when she will start asking me what it all means I want to know a little about what I’m talking about. Currently Morgan is still too young to understand fully what I share with her but I wanted to make sure that I did my research so that I can pass on to her the stories and traditions of the many holidays that we celebrate here in America.
I do absolutely love traditions and customs. So I set out to learn as much as I could about Memorial Day and the meaning behind the holiday. Here are the top 7 things that I learned about the importance of Memorial Day. I will use them to explain it to my little Morgan. Thank you so much to my wonderful friend Google. You have steered me in so many interesting directions while researching this history.

Have you ever heard of Task Specific Cleaning? I haven’t either until I think I made it up! I tried to Google it to make sure I didn’t read about the concept somewhere and forget about it, I couldn’t find anything. While I’m sure Task Specific Cleaning isn’t new, it’s something new to me. Let me explain!
I hope that by the end of this post a sense of AH HA will wash over you. Spring ends on June 20th. Which means that there is about a month left to Spring Clean. I was so excited in March when Spring began and I started out strong organizing all of our closets and drawers. However my enthusiasm fizzled. Spring Cleaning has completely taken a back-burner to my being sick, us taking trips, us working 9 to 5, starting and growing this blog and just dealing with everyday tasks.
But I am determined to make this final month of Spring count. In order to really complete my deep dive Spring Cleaning I must do one of my favorite things. Make a List!!! I just love making lists, even more so I love checking things off of my lists. If you are like me and you want to really make this final month of Spring count and complete your Spring Cleaning with a fury keep reading! I also have a bonus printable (link at the bottom of the post).
When I used to make Spring Cleaning checklists in the past I would focus on cleaning room by room; but then I realized I would need to get out different supplies for each task in that room – baseboards, windows etc. So instead of doing a checklist that is based on room by room cleaning I decided to create a check list that was Task Specific. Hence the concept of Task Specific Cleaning was born.
Now I must be completely transparent this is a whole lot easier to accomplish when your home is under 1000 sq feet. I probably wouldn’t recommend Task Specific Cleaning to those of you in a 3000 sq ft foot home – although if you want some great cardio – go for it!!!
In order to get started I listed items that need cleaning in each room and then listed the specific tasks that are required to clean those items.
Let’s begin with everyone’s favorite (insert sarcasm here):

It’s been a crazy three weeks. We have successfully completed two full road trips and boy where they fun! First we went to Las Vegas to visit Austin’s cousin and his family. Las Vegas is about a 3 hour drive from Los Angeles. It took us almost 5 hours with all the stops along the way. This past Mother’s Day weekend we went up to Mammoth Lakes to visit my parents. Mammoth is a 6 hour drive from Los Angeles which took us roughly 9 hours with all the baby stops along the way.
We have a few more road trips planned for the remainder of the year and I’m sure we will squeeze in a few unplanned ones as well. Road trips are just a fun, easy and affordable way to travel. Previously I wrote two posts about Road Trip planning with a baby, read them here: How To Love Going On Road Trips With Your Baby and 7 Astoundingly Epic Road Trip Splurges. The best part about Road Trips for me is the bonding that you get to do in the car along the way. You see new things, chat and have sing-a-longs. You also get to discover some cool new restaurants and attractions.

To be honest all I knew about Mother’s Day was that it is a National Holiday honoring mothers and motherhood. I am so every fortunate to have become a mother for the 1st time in 2015. Although I have been celebrating Mother’s Day with my own mother for years and years; until today I didn’t know much about the history of this special day.
Morgan is still too young to understand fully what I share with her but I wanted to make sure that I did my research so that I can pass on to her the stories and traditions of the many holidays that we celebrate here in America.

What is Bloggers Block you ask, well I equate it to being the exact same thing as Writers Block. I am in the complete midst of it. I haven’t yet run out of Blogging ideas. In fact I have a list about 30-40 ideas long. However, there is nothing sparking my interest at the moment. My mommy mind is full. My mind is full of decisions and worries and possibilities.
I used to write a lot in school for assignments and for fun. I learned during that time that the Best Ever Solution for Writers Block or in this case Bloggers Block is to…….Write. I always hated that advice to be honest with you. I felt as though if I couldn’t think of an idea that sparked my interest how the heck could I possibly write. It’s easy. If you begin to write your stream of consciousness will take over and you will begin to create words on a paper.
