I love planning parties! In fact my sister and I have turned it into a sport! We just love the decorations, the themes and the unexpected accessories. Lately however I have been much more conscious of what certain party planning necessities do to the environment. I’m talking about all the plastic goods. There is so much waste! Plastic plates, utensils, bottles, platters, serving spoons etc! It’s shocking how much thrash can come from a simple party. I have become determined to throw parties without the excessive waste.
This past weekend Austin and I celebrated our baby shower for our soon to be baby boy. We are so very excited about our family expanding. And as always I was so very excited to put on a great event! With the waste issue at the forefront of my mind, I set out to find products that were environmentally friendly. I was actually quite surprised that the green products I was replacing all the plastic goods with were much cheaper. Cheap and good for the environment, I’m sold.
In today’s post I will be sharing with you my top 5 Surprisingly Inexpensive “GREEN” Party Necessities. I hope you consider using some of these products for your next event as an alternative to the many plastic items that are simply hurting our planet. Before I list each item I would like to share some pictures that showcase just how complementary these biodegradable and compostable products can be to your party decor.

These forks are 100% compostable, in fact it takes them less than 60 days to fully compost. They don’t contain any dyes, bleaches or glazes which make them especially great for kids events. You can buy spoons and knives in addition to the forks. What I especially love about them is that they were so very sturdy and will match any decor.
I was amazed by these plates, they are incredibly sturdy and attractive. They definitely match any decor you can possibly think of. They are 100% tree free, containing no plastic or wax linings. They are made from unbleached, chlorine free, pesticide free, dye free, natural discarded wheat stalk and sugarcane fibers. They are microwave safe and can be used for both hot and cold foods. I was seriously impressed by the quality of these plates.
BPA free and certified compostable cold liquid cups. I had no idea that these even existed until I did my research. These cups generate less CO2 than traditional plastic cups and they will compost in a matter of months. If you will be using cups at your next event these are definitely the ones to use, they are made from plants and soy based inks. Simply amazing!
Number 4: Seventh Generation Natural Lunch Napkin
Napkins are a necessity at every party. Seventh Generation offers a 100% recycled paper, hypoallergenic napkin. In addition to being green they hold up when in use, which can’t be said about a lot of napkins on the market.
Number 5: Boxed Water (24 Count)
My fifth item is neither inexpensive or entirely green. However if your alternative is a plastic bottle, then boxed water is definitely a more environmentally friendly buy. What I really like about boxed water however is what it does not contain as opposed to some plastic water bottles. Boxed water containers do not contain chromium, arsenic, chlorine, fluoride or trace pharmaceuticals. Some harsh chemicals such as BPA can seep out of plastic water bottles if they are exposed to heat for a very long time.
I hope you enjoyed today’s post and please let me know if you have any green product recommendations. Or if you have experience with any of the products listed above. I would love to hear from you!
