In the middle of editing my blog post last week I had my final ultrasound appointment. During that doctor’s appointment I received news that my amniotic fluid was dangerously low. While I contemplated what to do next my doctor had different plans. She advised me that I was going straight to the hospital to deliver baby Parker!
So much rushes through your head when you need to go to the hospital asap. I was thinking – but I have to work; I have to finish my blog post; will Austin make it home in time to take me; will my mother in law make it in time to watch Morgan? So many things to consider, so many things that might or might not have mattered given the dire situation.
The one thing that truly mattered however was the fact that the day after I was sent to the hospital I gave birth to a healthy baby boy!
Parker Montgomery Burge entered the world on 11-7-2017 at 7:11pm! If that’s not a sign of lucky things to come I don’t know what is. In fact lately a lot of lucky things have been happening. My blog has been getting a lot more notice; Austin and I might actually be making headway with finally finding a home; and my co-worker Berlyn approached me with an opportunity I just couldn’t refuse.
Berlyn and I work for the same large Fortune 10 company. Although, we both love our careers, our passions are with our families. She is a mom on a mission as am I, we both want the very best for our growing families. I saw that Berlyn was well on her way to fulfilling her financial goals, and I wanted to know her secret! She was more than kind enough to share it with me. Now that I have her secret I’m going to share it with all of you!
I started hearing about the concept of Meal Planning a few years ago. Back then however it came from my extremely fit and active friends. Today Meal Planning at least in my circle has been coming more and more from my mommy friends. You see as I have discovered Meal Planning is not only a key to weight loss and/or a balance lifestyle; but it is also a key tool for efficiency and household money management.
If there is one luxury that I was always willing to spend money on it was food. Austin and I before Morgan loved to eat well – very well! We dined at the finest restaurants in Los Angeles and on our travels. And we made sure that we used the best ingredients when we cooked at home. When Morgan arrived we didn’t skimp on the ingredients in fact they became almost exclusively organic and natural. However we did cut back drastically on going out. You would think that would have meant that we were saving more. In fact the opposite happened. Because I was cooking more we were spending more. Our monthly grocery bill was soon becoming outrageous.
After a few months in denial, thinking it was just the increase in prices. I slowly started to realize that my additional spending was attributed to not having a plan! This is when Meal Planning entered the picture. Once I started Meal Planning I was able to drastically reduce my weekly grocery bill from roughly $160-$170 per week for a family of three to $100-110 a week. Today I am going to review with you 9 of the best Meal Planning tricks that I have learned along the way that has saved me on average $240 a month or $2880 a year!!!
One of the things that I just love to do in life besides spend time with my baby Morgan and Austin is to save money. Sometimes finding a bargain is a greater joy then being able to spend tons of money on something. For instance I have nice designer handbags all purchased at sample sales; when we vacation it’s using reward points; and when we travel I sign up for Living Social in the area we will be visiting months before we leave to save on all sorts of activities, accommodations and attractions.
But by far the biggest money saver in our household is the Yelp App. You must be wondering how an app about reviews to places you visit every single day saves you money. Well you are in luck because today I will be giving away one of my biggest money saving secrets. Every year I save hundreds of dollars on service industries such as photographers, doctors, dentists, restaurants, home painters, handyman, spas, contractors and the list goes on. There are 5 key ways that you can save money with the Yelp app. Want to find out how, keep reading!

My sister had started selling on eBay a few years back. One day she was telling me about all of the success that she was having selling her unwanted treasures. She was now the second person in my close circle that was selling and making money on eBay. The other person was Austin. But you know husbands they do all sorts of crazy things so I pretty much ignored his success.
It was a little over 2 years ago now that I had just finished my spring cleaning for the season and I had so many things that I just couldn’t part with at another yard sale. Although I had perfected yard sales and truly loved them (read my post about it here: How to Make A Fortune And Have Fun At Your Yard Sale!); my yard sales were only generating so much compared to what I could sell some items for on eBay. Especially my budding purse collection that needed to be refreshed. Out with the old, in with the new!!!
So I finally sat down with Austin and he showed me his eBay selling techniques. I can be quite stubborn with learning new things. Especially if it doesn’t entirely interest me, or if I want a nice shortcut. So why not use Austin’s expertise, he had been selling on eBay for years. Small car gadgets and machine parts that he would make good money on. I needed to know his secrets. And quickly, I didn’t have time to waste!
I’m taking a bit of a Spring Break from my Spring Cleaning posts to share something new! Don’t worry if you can’t get enough cleaning and organizing tips I’ll be back with a new post on Monday. You won’t want to miss it! It’s one of my favorite topics.
I can’t hide my excitement about a new style of post that I am piloting. The Featured MOMtrepreneur. A momtrepreneur is a woman who sets up and runs her own business in addition to caring for her young child or children.
When I first had the idea of starting a blog there was one post that I could not wait to write. In fact I wrote it over and over again in my head. I am a weird one when it comes to things I’m passionate about: my daughter, my husband, my career and oh yes hosting yard sales! You read that right hosting yard sales! Today I’m going to be sharing my yard sale do’s and don’ts with all of you. I’m so excited this is the second post in my Spring Cleaning series. I hope you enjoy How To Make A Fortune And Have Fun At Your Yard Sale.
This post contains affiliate links, which means that at no additional cost to you I may receive a small commission if you purchase an item using my links. I however will only recommend items that I have in fact used and love.
If there is one thing that I am known for it’s my irrational need to be prepared. Expecting a baby made my compulsion kick into overdrive. I stress out easily if I am not prepared for something. Literally anything! So of course I took my pre-baby stockpiling to the extreme. Morgan is close to 15 months now and I’m still good on most of our necessities! I learned a lot from creating my stockpile. In this post I want to share with you the best pre-baby stockpile must haves.
Have you ever opened your bathroom cabinets to a sea of lotions, creams and face masks? How about all those small hotel samples of shampoo and conditioner that you hoard and swear you’ll use? If you answered yes to either of these questions then we are soul sisters!
I feel so bad throwing away my “just in case” items or my “oh I always wanted to try that brand” items. So I did what a lot of people do. I organized them away, I bought stacking drawer organizers that would hold all of my chaos. I even labeled the drawers so I would know what was waiting inside. But alas, in actuality those sample size items were just sitting there for years and years going unused.
