5 Surprisingly Inexpensive “GREEN” Party Necessities

5 Surprisingly Inexpensive GREEN Party Necessities

I love planning parties! In fact my sister and I have turned it into a sport! We just love the decorations, the themes and the unexpected accessories. Lately however I have been much more conscious of what certain party planning necessities do to the environment. I’m talking about all the plastic goods. There is so much waste! Plastic plates, utensils, bottles, platters, serving spoons etc! It’s shocking how much thrash can come from a simple party. I have become determined to throw parties without the excessive waste.

This past weekend Austin and I celebrated our baby shower for our soon to be baby boy. We are so very excited about our family expanding. And as always I was so very excited to put on a great event! With the waste issue at the forefront of my mind, I set out to find products that were environmentally friendly. I was actually quite surprised that the green products I was replacing all the plastic goods with were much cheaper. Cheap and good for the environment, I’m sold.

The Stay At Home Mom Experiment, The Aftermath

The Stay At Home Mom Experiment The Aftermath

If you have been following along with my posts you will know that last week was my first run in with being a Stay At Home Mom. Catch up on last weeks post here: Welcome To The Stay At Home Mom Experiment Behind the Scenes. For a full week my 19 month old baby Morgan was on summer vacation. When she was 6 months old she started attending day care full time, and since then besides the occasional holiday I have not had the chance to stay home with her on a long term basis. This was a experiment for the both of us.

I absolutely love my career, but I have considered being a stay at home mom a few times since Morgan was born. That feeling increased even more when I became pregnant with my second. I am currently 6 months along. However living in Los Angeles that is virtually an impossible task unless a lottery win is in my future.

I knew that this week would not give me the perspective that real stay at home mom’s have since it was only for a week and I knew that I would return to my lovely corporate job very soon. However it did give me perspective into how hard, amazing, stressful and rewarding the task of being a stay at home mom really is.

I made sure that at the end of each day I reflected on the good and the bad that I experienced. Here is my break down, Monday – Friday, day by day! The Stay At Home Mom Experiment – The Aftermath.

Welcome To The Stay At Home Mom Experiment. Behind The Scenes.

The Stay At Home Mom Experiment

This week is a very unique one indeed. My 19 month old has a week off of day care for Summer Vacation. What this really means is that mommy has a huge challenge in front of her. I am entering into an unfamiliar world. A world of being a stay at home mom. Although my journey will only last a week, I anticipate it will be a rough one with multiple challenges ahead of me. However, I also very optimistic. Probably a little too optimistic at this point. I have grand plans of activities, potty training, bonding and having tons of fun. Welcome To The Stay At Home Mom Experiment. Behind The Scenes.

How To Avoid A Very Costly Pregnancy Blunder

How To Avoid A Very Costly Pregnancy Blunder

May was such an exciting month for our little family. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary.

how to avoid a very costly pregnancy blunder

And we made an extra special announcement featuring Morgan for our Baby Boy coming in November.

I'm Going To Be A Big Sister

However with every bit of good news comes some bad news. Luckily my bad news is not anything that is life changing or terrible. It is rather silly in fact now that I can look back at it in retrospect.

10 years ago Austin let me design my wedding ring. It was super special to me because I love symmetry and I always thought the engagement ring with a one band look was unbalanced. I decided to go against the norm and opted for two bands one on either side of my engagement ring. To describe my ring you would say it is two diamond eternity bands that sandwich a third eternity band with a center stone surrounded by a halo containing diamonds. I absolutely love love love my ring. It’s perfect. You might be asking yourself right about now why is Julia describing her wedding ring to us?

Well you see when I got pregnant with Morgan and every single night for 8 years prior to that I removed my ring every single night. It was annoying to sleep with it, mostly because I would either scratch myself or Austin in the middle of the night. That sucker can be sharp! But for some reason after giving birth once it fit again I put it back on and haven’t taken it off ever since. Therein lies the rub! I’m almost 5 months pregnant, two weeks ago I woke up from a tossy turney sleep to realize my ring finger was super swollen. I tried my go to method of cold water and soap to remove my ring but it wouldn’t budge.

I nonchalantly let Austin know that I think my ring was stuck. He became way more worried than I was. He started to Google ways to remove a ring from a swollen finger. In today’s post I am going to list all the ways that we tried to remove my ring before I finally had to call and make an appointment with our jeweler to have it cut off. My precious lovely ring.

Here is what we tried:

How To Explain The Importance Of Memorial Day To Your Toddler

How To Explain The Importance Of Memorial Day To Your Toddler

In March I wrote a super successful post about How to Explain The Spirit Of St. Patrick’s Day To Your Toddler. Then in April I followed it up with How To Explain The Meaning Of Easter To Your Toddler. In May came How To Explain The Importance Of Mother’s Day To Your Toddler. I received overwhelmingly positive feedback for all of these posts. I also learned so much from doing them, and found that I really enjoyed researching and writing them. A recurring comment that I received was that I should create a similar post for each upcoming holiday. I think that is a fantastic idea! I will have to explain each holiday to Morgan anyway, and what a better way than to actually learn the facts behind them. Today I will be sharing with you How To Explain The Importance Of Memorial Day To Your Toddler.

To be honest all I knew about Memorial Day was that it is a Holiday honoring those that served in the armed forces and have since passed. It also commemorates my and Austin’s wedding anniversary. This year Austin and I will be celebrating 10 years! We had an extremely patriotic wedding. It was at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace. We requested every single American Flag that they had on premises. We dined in a replica of the White House East Room. And our guests even got to board and tour Marine One. In my eyes our wedding was absolutely perfect!

But I digress, this post is about Memorial Day and as always I want to know more. Especially because when Morgan does come to an age when she will start asking me what it all means I want to know a little about what I’m talking about. Currently Morgan is still too young to understand fully what I share with her but I wanted to make sure that I did my research so that I can pass on to her the stories and traditions of the many holidays that we celebrate here in America.

I do absolutely love traditions and customs. So I set out to learn as much as I could about Memorial Day and the meaning behind the holiday. Here are the top 7 things that I learned about the importance of Memorial Day. I will use them to explain it to my little Morgan. Thank you so much to my wonderful friend Google. You have steered me in so many interesting directions while researching this history.
